Investing in Associate Development

Asbury Nursing Grants Advance Careers

Providing multiple frameworks for career development is one way Asbury strives to be the employer of choice in each of our markets. We are pleased to have the Asbury Foundation as our partner in these efforts.

An example of this partnership is a series of nursing scholarships that now provide educational grants for health care associates at Asbury Solomons, Bethany Village, Inverness Village, and Springhill – and that have contributed close to $200,000 in support for 120 associates as of 2017.

The scholarship programs began at Bethany Village, where a group of former nurses living at the community wanted to support caregivers in advancing their training and health careers. They reached out to Foundation staff, and The Bethany Village Nursing Grant was born.

The program soon spread to other Asbury communities where residents and leadership were eager to assist associates in career development.

Each Nursing Grant Committee is comprised of residents who work in tandem with Foundation and clinical staff. Each year, grants are presented during a formal reception and tea.

Lori Crum was an early recipient of the scholarship program, and says the grants she received helped remove some financial pressure and allow her to more easily balance work and school.

Now a case manager at Bethany Village, Lori says that serving others “is a two-way street here. The staff appreciate the residents and they feel that appreciation, so they appreciate the staff back.”

That sentiment is a hallmark of Asbury communities where purpose-driven careers are fostered every day.
