The History of Asbury Place Kingsport

Over 30 Years of Service

Asbury Place Kingsport was founded in 1989 to support the growing demand that seniors had in the area for an engaging retirement community to call home. This senior living community located in the Tri-Cities, Tenn. region, was the second continuing care retirement community created by Asbury Place, Inc., which was established in 1956 with the development of Asbury Place Maryville. Carved into the foothills of the beautiful Bays mountain, Asbury Place Kingsport provides seniors living in the Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol area and beyond with an engaging lifestyle and maintenance-free living on our Baysmont campus.

We’ve continued to adapt to the changing needs of seniors with innovative programming and initiatives. The Steadman Hill campus supports residents in need of assisted living and memory care services.

In 2016 we became a regional leader by adding new skilled nursing, assisted living and memory support neighborhoods built on the household model – where residences are built in the style of a private home. Our 30-year history is built on realizing that our work is never done, that there is always one more opportunity to do all the good we can for those we serve.

A Rich and Full History

Like our sister community Asbury Place Maryville, we continue to share a covenant of faith and values with the Methodist Church, while welcoming people of all backgrounds, beliefs, cultures, and abilities. As a not-for-profit, we are Mission-driven in our operations, focusing foremost on serving the residents of our communities.

We honor our spiritual heritage by fostering a spirit to do all the good we can – a spirit that is evident in our support of the greater Kingsport community, which includes the operation of 38 HUD affordable senior housing apartments.

Asbury Place Kingsport is part of the Asbury Communities system, which is among the nation’s 20-largest not-for-profit continuing care retirement community systems. Asbury is an organization of people with a mindset to help others, and we continue to evolve and grow our services to residents and their families.

Now that you know more about our history, we invite you to explore more about what makes our community so special.
