His wife, Cindy, is 10 years his junior and works as a school nurse. But Art saw first-hand what delaying a move because you\u2019re \u2018too young\u2019 can mean.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy\u2019s aunt and uncle moved to Bethany Village when they were in their 80s. Cindy\u2019s uncle was in failing health. When they visited Art would comment that it was a shame they couldn\u2019t take advantage of all the community\u2019s amenities. \u201cI just fell in love with the community, the grounds, the whole package. There were many things I loved about the place \u2013 the garden plots and clubs, the woodworking shop, Fitness Center and pool \u2013 that I wanted to use now,\u201d Art says.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy still wasn\u2019t sold. Avid outdoor enthusiasts, Art and Cindy also owned a home near the Appalachian Trail, which they kept after moving to Bethany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Art first started talking about coming to Bethany, I kept saying I\u2019m not ready, I\u2019m too young,\u201d Cindy says. But a marketer by trade, Art can be persuasive. When a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asbury.org\/bethany-village\/independent-living\/cottages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cottage<\/a>\u00a0became available just nine months after they joined the community\u2019s Waiting List, Cindy still had trepidations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be honest, I thought I was going to just put up with it here, but I\u2019ve loved it. I thought I would miss our big house, but it just really feels like home here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Cindy\u2019s mom has joined the community, too, and Art jokes that he\u2019s going to run for Mayor of Bethany with all of the ready-made constituents he has.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a very particular person,\u201d Art points out, \u201cand in the four years we\u2019ve been here I really have no negatives to share.
