Transformational Gift for Brain Health Center at Asbury Methodist Village
Asbury is committed to becoming the leading brain health and wellness provider in senior living. Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland, has already developed an innovative approach to therapy for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The community is excited to grow its brain health offerings, and donor support will be critical to its success.
Asbury Foundation is privileged to share news about a major impact on this exciting journey. Cynthia Mordaunt Rosborough has made the first commitment toward creating the Rosborough Wellness and Brain Health Center for Excellence at Asbury Methodist Village. This gift is the first step in expanding upon current programming that includes BrainHQ online brain-training exercises, TRX strength-training equipment and Parkinson’s disease support groups.
Because mental and physical wellness go hand in hand, all activities included in the new Wellness and Brain Health Center will work to improve cognitive and physical capabilities. The community is planning innovative new offerings, such as additional computer-based exercise and learning programs, as well as fitness classes that integrate boxing and other traditional exercise techniques with yoga or Pilates.
“We’ll add programs that provide the greatest benefit to the brain,” said Wellness Director Sue Paul. “In addition, we are looking at enhancing our nutritional program by providing expanded nutritional counseling and a juice bar.” Sue is also leading a team researching computer-based activities likes “exergaming,” a new concept that integrates computer gaming with traditional physical and mental activities. Sue continued, “This wouldn’t be possible without Cindy’s support!”
Receiving this donation at the launch of the imitative gives the community the opportunity to design and build spaces specifically for each brain health activity.
Cindy shared, “I’m not an expert on brain health. But I do know firsthand the value of early self-identification as well as continuing physical and neurological training even when you want to give up. My involvement with Asbury matches my passion for improving the lives of other individuals with Parkinson’s and of other older adults in general.”
Executive Director Michele Potter noted, “Cindy is investing in our vision. The enhancements she is making possible will be a major step in raising the Asbury profile as a leader in brain health-related care. Her support will inspire others to match their philanthropy to their passions.”
Thank you, Cindy, for inspiring us to expand our definition of wellness!
