John and SherryAsbury Solomons Donor Story: John Giusti & Sherry Stanley

John Giusti and Sherry Stanley had traveled the globe working for the Foreign Service. When they married in 1998, they settled in Bethesda, Maryland, where John continued his career with USAID.

Sherry always loved waterfront real estate, so when John retired in 2004, they moved to a beautiful home along the St. Mary’s River in Southern Maryland.

In 2013, they started wondering what was next. They had friends who lived in Continuing Care Retirement Communities, including Asbury Solomons, and so they started touring communities. They wanted to replicate their St. Mary’s home as much as they could, especially the sunsets.

John and Sherry found themselves more frequently stopping by Asbury Solomons around sunset to soak in the beauty. When a river view cottage opened in 2018, they knew they couldn’t pass it up! However, they needed to sell their home to fund their entrance fee. They learned of the Asbury Foundation Partnership Program, which would allow them to defer their entrance fee until their home sold, while Asbury Foundation would provide carrying cost assistance. Once their home sold, they would fund the remainder of their entrance fee and make a major gift to the Foundation to benefit their new community.

John shared, “The partnership brought peace of mind. We didn’t have to make a financial sacrifice. And knowing that our gift may give a few extra years of comfort to someone through benevolent care feels good.”
