Don and Julie Dickinson moved to Asbury Solomons in Southern Maryland in June 2016, after living in Vermont for 14 years. Don grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland, and Julie grew up in Centerville, Iowa; the two met in Maryland early in their careers. They spent most of their married life in Northern New Jersey, Julie as a teacher, and Don in the automotive industry. After honeymooning on a a trans-Atlantic cruise, the Dickinson’s love for travel was ignited. They have seen much of the world and are looking forward to an upcoming trip, trans-Atlantic crossing with ports of call in Iceland and Greenland.
Don and Julie always dreamed of living on the water, and once they saw Asbury Solomons, they knew it was where they would call home: a beautiful view, the Peterkin Wellness Cetner, and close proximity to friends and family. After learning about the Asbury Foundation’s Real Estate Partnership Program, they believed it was a “win-win.” With the program, Julie and Don were able to defer their entrance fee until the sale of their home and make a generous gift to benefit Asbury Solomons. Julie smiled, “It feels wonderful that we will be helping our new neighbors in need.”
The Asbury Foundation Real Estate Partnership Program defers incoming residents’ entrance fees until their home sells. At the time of the sale, the residents fulfill their entrance fee and then give a tax-deductible gift to the Asbury Foundation.
