But if the path isn&#8217;t so clear, how do you know when your concerns are justified?<\/p>\n<p>Broad categories to consider include <strong>medical safety<\/strong>; <strong>activities of daily living and personal care<\/strong>; <strong>home safety<\/strong>; <strong>driving safety<\/strong>, and <strong>financial safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are routinely noticing several of the issues listed below, it is time to discuss scheduling a doctor\u2019s visit or contacting a senior home care agency to conduct a safety assessment.<\/p>\n<h2>Behavioral<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Missing appointments, forgetfulness and confusion regarding medications<\/li>\n<li>Stacks of unopened mail, late payments or bounced checks; payments to unknown sources<\/li>\n<li>Uncertainty and confusion when performing once-familiar tasks<\/li>\n<li>Repeated phone calls at odd hours<\/li>\n<li>Household chores are going undone<\/li>\n<li>Spoiled food in the home or scorched pots and pans<\/li>\n<li>Poor diet or weight loss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Physical<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Unexplained bruises or marks on the body<\/li>\n<li>Trouble getting up from a seated position or with walking and balance<\/li>\n<li>Unexplained dents and scratches on a car<\/li>\n<li>Infrequent showering and bathing or smell of urine in the house<\/li>\n<li>Decline in personal hygiene and dress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Emotional<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Loss of interest in hobbies and activities<\/li>\n<li>Changes in mood or extreme mood swings<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms of depression such as lack of interest in old activities, crying or listlessness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"additional-content\" class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"twelve columns\">\n<h2>Is Your Parent\u2019s Home Suited for Aging in Place?<\/h2>\n<p>When assessing whether a home is well-suited to aging in place, there are several major areas to consider. This checklist focuses on interior safety, which is just one important assessment area. I strongly recommend hiring a home care professional for the task.\u00a0 They bring a fresh set of eyes, a more analytical approach and significant experience.<\/p>\n<p>If mobility and balance is already an issue you are noticing, purchase an alert pendant system and cell phone. That way, if a fall occurs, help can be summoned.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are there throw rugs?
