Asbury Methodist Village: Proud to be a Community of Welcome

After a month of dedicated events, Asbury Methodist Village closed out Pride Month celebrations with a campus-wide cookout attended by more than 100 residents and associates.

Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg’s premier continuing care retirement community, is committed to empowering the residents and associates who live and work here to create an environment that does not tolerate racism or oppression towards another individual, and we are firmly committed to the delivery of services to all those who call Asbury home.

Asbury’s Lifestyle Enrichment Coordinator Patty Malatt and Pastoral Care Director Malcolm Frazier partnered with campus and local leaders throughout the month of June to offer a series of events that included:

  • Pride flag raising ceremony
  • Concert by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington
  • Participation in the Rockville Pride Parade

“I’m proud to be a part of the Pride events that we held on campus,” says Patty. “It’s heartwarming to see the love and acceptance of residents and associates on our campus, and the support that they show to allow anyone who is a part of our Asbury family to be who they truly are.”

Asbury Methodist Village is the first CCRC in Maryland to earn Platinum certification from SAGECare, an LGBT accrediting body which fosters welcoming cultures for lesbian, gay, and transgender people with its partner organizations. Platinum is the highest level of recognition and is based on organizational training.

Together, Asbury and SAGECare serve people with the best care possible, and help all people age with dignity and respect, with the comfort of knowing they will be celebrated for who they are. We cherish our diversity and believe it enhances the quality of life across the Asbury system, making us the best place to live, work, learn, and play.
