Marjorie McFarland: Living Fully and Giving Back

Marjorie McFarland Creates a Legacy Fund

A Life Lived Fully and with Purpose

Marjorie McFarland embraced every opportunity to live fully and give back during her time at Asbury Methodist Village. From writing for Village Life to exploring the vibrant cultural scene of Washington, D.C., Marjorie’s enthusiasm for life was contagious. She loved tennis, art, and music and was a dedicated volunteer, bringing her wit and wisdom to every corner of the community.

“Marjorie’s wisdom was only surpassed by her humor and her ability to advocate for what she believed in,” says one associate who worked closely with her.

A Legacy of Giving Back

One of Marjorie’s deepest passions was supporting benevolent care. To ensure that her commitment continued beyond her lifetime, she named the Benevolent Care Endowment Fund as the residuary beneficiary of her estate. After specific bequests, a $1 million gift was left to the fund, creating a legacy that will provide for residents in need for years to come.

“I wanted to do something that would make a difference, something that reflected how much Asbury has meant to me,” Marjorie once said.

Planned gifts like Marjorie’s allow donors to retain control over their assets while creating lasting change. Her generosity is a testament to the power of thoughtful giving and the impact of community spirit.

Marjorie’s story is a reminder that intellectual and emotional engagement are essential at every stage of life. A 2021 study of SuperAgers—individuals in their 80s and beyond who maintain the

cognitive health of much younger people—found that lifelong learning and connection are critical to staying sharp and vibrant.

Marjorie’s gift, along with her commitment to living life to the fullest, exemplifies the values that make Asbury Methodist Village such a special place.
