Asbury Foundation Raises $32,500 to Provide Tablets for Residents

Five years ago Asbury CEO Doug Leidig charged our organization to ask three questions, “Why? Why not? What if?” Recently, this brought about an incredible gift to the residents of our communities.

COVID-19 has required that we become creative in how we are connecting residents and their loved ones and technology is a key part of those efforts.

This week Doug asked the leadership of Asbury Place Kingsport (Kingsport, Tn.) what additional resources they needed to get through this challenging time. Lauren Huddleston, Director of Wellness and Lifestyles, at Asbury Place Kingport quickly followed-up and asked “What if we had even more tablets for our community?”

The Asbury Foundation team jumped into action and set a goal to raise $25,000 within 24-hours for the purchase of additional tablets for all of Asbury’s communities. Did we make it? You bet we did!

We are proud to share that as of April 2 more than $32,000 has been committed towards this project!

President & CEO of the Asbury Foundation J.D. Shuman shares,

“Early on, Asbury saw the need to provide tablets to our resident family in order to assist in their ability to stay in contact with their loved ones. Over the last few weeks, donors have asked us how they can help during this time and partnered with the Asbury Foundation to quickly mobilize their efforts into action. I am so pleased that our Asbury Foundation family is able to enhance Asbury’s current support of providing tablets to residents.”

These funds will purchase video-chatting capable tablets for each of the sixteen total Assisted Living, Personal Care, and Healthcare communities within the Asbury System.

Asbury Methodist Village Executive Director, Michele Potter, was ecstatic when she heard the news.

“I am so excited to hear that generous friends of Asbury stepped in to assist in this way! My staff and I were just brainstorming ways that we could get additional tablets in the hands of the residents – when I heard this news – it’s a true blessing at just the right time!”

We are ever so grateful to all of the Asbury Communities Board Members, Asbury Foundation Board Members, Asbury Foundation Partners, Family Members, and Resident Donor Family that made this possible!
