I’m Having a Senior Moment: Redefining Aging at Asbury

By Todd Andrews, President, Community Living Division

I’ll admit it: I’m having a senior moment. But not the kind where you forget what day it is. At Asbury, a senior moment looks more like stepping into a boxing class, conquering a rock-climbing wall, or drumming your way to a stronger heart and a lighter spirit. (Now that’s a moment worth celebrating.)

October 6–12 is Active Aging Week, created by the International Council on Active Aging to shine a light on the limitless potential of older adults. At Asbury, though, we don’t believe in limiting that celebration to one week. Through our initiative, Senior Moments Redefined, we embrace it every single day.

Redefining What a Senior Moment Means

For too long, “senior moment” has been shorthand for decline. But what if it meant something else? What if it meant boldness, growth, connection, and joy? (Picture a senior moment as the time you try something new, inspire someone else, or discover a hidden strength.)

Living Boldly, Living Fully

Our communities are buzzing with opportunities. Boxing classes are building balance and stamina, rock climbing is sparking adventure, and forest bathing is restoring calm. Add in pickleball, Kinnections Brain Health programs, and fitness drumming, and you’ll see why we say these aren’t “activities”–they’re part of a whole-person approach to . Well being

AgeTech Collaboration

Our Strategic Blueprint 2025–2027 commits us to being technology-forward and people-centered. That’s why we’ve joined forces with the AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP®. This collaboration is more than adopting new tools; it’s co-creating solutions that expand choice, deepen connection, and enhance daily living. (Because technology should strengthen human connection, not replace it.)

Powered by People

None of this happens without our associates. Their creativity and dedication earned Asbury three spots on the ICAA’s Top 20 wellness-forward organizations in 2023. (It’s a reminder that culture change always begins with people who care.)

Your Next Senior Moment

Active Aging Week is proof that aging is not an ending…it’s a new beginning. So go ahead, have your “senior moment.” Step into the boxing ring, scale the rock wall, or simply try something that sparks joy.

And if you’d like a little inspiration, check out our “I’m Having a Senior Moment” stories on Asbury’s social media. You’ll find residents and associates redefining what it means to age boldly, joyfully, and with purpose.

Because at Asbury, we’re not just talking about active aging. We’re living it–one unforgettable senior moment at a time.
