Asbury Methodist Village: Nearing a Century of Service

Asbury Methodist Village is among the nation’s 15th-largest continuing care retirement communities (CCRC), and has served older adults in Gaithersburg, MD., since 1926. As part of Asbury Communities, Asbury Methodist Village is also a member of one of the largest not-for-profit CCRC organizations in the United States – an organization committed to redefining aging services for approximately 4,300 seniors in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

We welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures and abilities and honor our Methodist roots by fostering a campus spirit where doing all the good we can isn’t just a daily practice, it’s our Mission. To that end, we became the state’s first CCRC to achieve certification from SAGECare, an LGBT accrediting body, in 2018.

Our History

Founded by area Methodist leaders on a former dairy farm in April 1926, Asbury Methodist Village is approaching a century of dedicated service. All residents lived in what is now the Administration Building on Russell Ave., which continued to add wings through the years. In 1972 the campus’s first apartment buildings were constructed. After adding a full continuum of health care services, Asbury Methodist Village was certified by Maryland as a continuing care retirement community in 1981.

The Rosborough Cultural Arts and Wellness Center opened in 2001, offering a theater, a Wellness Center and pool, and other amenities designed to enhance residents’ physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, vocational and social well-being. Our history is cataloged in the Rosborough Center through a resident-created timeline and archive.

Asbury Methodist Village has always been and continues to be a community of highly talented, engaged individuals. The achievement and passion in their lives continues to contribute to our community and the one that surrounds it. We’ve never settled for the status quo. Just like the residents who live here, our history is one of continuous learning and change.

The award-winning care, programs and facilities of Asbury Methodist Village demonstrate a commitment to wellness that permeates this 134-acre campus and drives the future of the community.

A Community for Today’s Seniors

Even though Asbury Methodist Village has a legacy steeped in tradition, one of our top priorities is to redefine aging services through continuous learning. New enhancements such as the Blue Note Bistro, and the award-winning Wilson Health Care Center are examples of how our philosophy comes to life.

Each resident becomes a part of our history through the lasting relationships they’ve forged and contributions they’ve added throughout the years. Residents are key to our progress, shaping the campus with their talents and passions. The 17-acre Wildlife Preserve, Keese School of Continuing Education, Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative, Asbury Farm, and Paws Dog Park are resident-driven initiatives that have made this a senior living community like no other in the metro-D.C. region.
